Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a website cost?
It’s best to think of a website as buying a new home. Your website is an online home for your business. As such, the price can vary a lot depending on many factors. My website projects start from $2500 AUD for a basic business website and upwards depending on your unique requirements. For more information, please see my website packages.
How long does it take to create a website?
A basic business website normally takes 4 weeks to complete. However, it really depends on the complexity of your website and the quality of content that you already have ready to go.
What content do I need to have ready to go?
Before I begin work on developing your website, you will need to have your content ready to go. This normally includes text content (copywriting), logo and images. If you don’t have your content ready, then I can help at an extra cost. But be prepared for an intense questionnaire that allows me to extract all the necessary information out of you!
Can you get my website ranked at #1 on Google?
Getting to that #1 rank on Google can be easy or difficult, happen quickly or over many months. It’s all about what you want to get ranked for. Getting you ranked at #1 for your business name (if no one else has used it) is relatively easy. But ranking for a competitive phrase like ‘web design geelong‘ is more difficult.
I will consult you on the best strategy following my in-depth keyword research for your particular industry. Keep in mind that the more competitive a keyword or keyword phrase is, the more difficult it is to organically rank.
What is Local SEO?
Local SEO should be part of your overall SEO strategy IF you want people to find you in your local area. i.e. to attract more business from a specific location(s).
For example, if I google ‘web designer in Geelong’ or just ‘web designer’, Google is going to show me all of the local businesses in Geelong that provide web design services.
The first step is creating a business listing on all relevant platforms. Start with a Google business listing, then perhaps a Bing listing, then Yellow Pages, etc. The most important is your Google business listing. Without this, you won’t appear in any of Google’s local search results.
For more information, read my guide about how to improve local SEO in Geelong.
Will my website be mobile-friendly?
All of my website projects are designed to be responsive across all devices. Having a responsive website aka mobile friendly website is critical for user experience and improving your SEO and search engine rankings.
A domain name aka URL is your online address. For example, my domain name is www.maxjacobs.com.au.
Do you create eCommerce websites aka online stores?
Yes, I create WooCommerce websites and Shopify websites.
What is a domain name?
Yes, I do. Most of my clients run online stores or a website with some kind of eCommerce functionality. Creating eCommerce websites aka online stores that generate sales on autopilot is always rewarding (for me and you!).
What is SEO?
SEO aka Search Engine Optimisation is the process of optimising your website so that Google thinks it is the most relevant piece of content for a particular search query (query meaning the thing you are Googling).
SEO includes:
– Local SEO: getting found in local business listings.
– On-Page SEO: optimising the content ON your site.
– Off-Page SEO: this covers all efforts outside of your website to increase your search engine rankings. A huge part of this is link building aka getting other websites linking to yours.
What is hosting?
Simply put, website hosting is where your website files live. A great analogy is to think of your website like a house. Your domain name aka URL is like your street address while your hosting is like your actual house, where you live.
Can you teach me how to make changes to my website?
I offer website maintenance plans so you don’t have to worry about making changes or managing your site.
